Remember Martial Law? (Sept. 21,1972 - Jan. 17, 1981)

Proclamation 1081.... the year/decade that was....

On this day Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos, the 10th President of the Republic of the Philippines declared Proclamation 1081, most commonly known as "Martial Law", it was the time when every Filipino had to obey the rules and command of the commander in chief; which is the President.

Under this military rule, they have the power over the people. One cannot say nor oppose whatever the government says. It was a decade of turmoil in Philippine politics and was also a burden for Filipinos as the country was getting poorer, as the cronys are getting richer.

Marcos says that Martial Law was the way to end poverty and to stop the uprising of the communist. It was also his way of getting investors to come over to invest in the country, but what really happened the countries debt grew more than what our country had before this. Inflation rate went high and a lot of political killings and illegal detention took place.

I can't imagine how Filipinos were able to live with this kind of governing. Too much sufferings and with the less comfort. Wonder what kind of lives our parents had to deal with. It must have been miserable having to wait for what's going to happen the next day.

It was a decade of fear and discomfort for the Filipinos. The lavishing life was only experienced by those in the Marcos government. It's sad for us to reminisce those days but the past is done and the present it here. We can still do something to prevent it.

Now that democracy is given to us, we should not let another event such as the Martial Law be in effect again. Let us all remember what happened during those years and let's be reminded that "Democracy is what we should be living and fighting for and not to be dictated again by those POWER HUNGRY POLITICIANS".

TAMA NA! SOBRA NA! LABAN NA!
